Review of Asset: Episode 14

July 30, 2014
Picture
Episode 14 is one of the stronger out of the season. It’s great to see Asset pick up again after the previous episode feeling too ambiguous.

The opening is great with Valentine and Nadja hashing it out. As opposed to the problems with Episode 13 where the audience is kept in the dark about each party plans to do, here we know everything. The point is for the audience to wonder when certain characters will catch on, in this case it’s Valentine and Nadja. What exactly does Nadja know about her husband’s business, and what exactly does Valentine know how Nadja has been spending her free time? The whole scene really gives Nadja a chance to explore her character more.

One mystery that I’m curious about is what exactly did Nadja find in the safe? What did it say and why does Valentine have it? Hopefully that will be revealed later on, but it’s unlikely with only one episode left.

One cool reference to note is Eric briefly wearing a Pete Winning [hyperlink] shirt.

The scene between Eric and Nadja has some great dialogue, but it’s a bit of a let down with some of Nadja’s reactions to Eric. Here Eric is finally in a place where we can take him seriously, and this is something I wish I got from him earlier in the series.

The ending with Anya and Dimitri is where the comedic timing works. Although I’m a huge fan of Anya and her hat, I have a hard time understanding what her motives are. She’s loyal to Valentine, but also scheming with Dimitri. Shouldn’t Anya be smart enough to know that Dimitri is probably dangerous? Every man for himself.
