Choose Your Victim Episode 3

Episode Three starts off with one of my favourite characters Nia Corpse. My reasoning behind this favourite is simply she has the biggest personality out of all the girls. Character interactions continue from where they left off, with Nia catching up with Asher. The two of them have a colourful conversation filled with creative and nasty insults. The dialogue in this web series has stayed to the reality TV parody, but the difference is that it more often happens between characters of the opposite sex (Nia and Asher) rather than the same sex. |
In contrast to the previous episode the camera crew are pretty much out as characters, and that’s only because the majority of them are dead. Instead we have a few key sequences not filmed by any hand-held, or amateur cameras. The best example being when the guys walk in on the two sluts Harper and Katrina having a sexy pillow fight. To not do that scene in a more cinematic fashion would be an injustice to lesbians and straight men everywhere.
My inappropriate comments aside, I think toning down the camera crew is an excellent move on the director’s part. They are only acknowledged a few times in the episode, so we know they’re still around. This way the show becomes less self-aware and makes the horror element more serious. This is so important when Nia, Asher, and Josh discover our first victim’s body. The detail of the gore was so well done in this scene, especially when Josh tried to give Sara mouth-to-mouth. (I squealed with joy when blood kept gushing out of her mouth. I am sick and twisted.)
Of course now I should mention this episode’s victim. Of course you have to watch to find out who died and how they died, but I am quite pleased with how is varies from the previous kill. In this episode I feel like we get to know the killer just a little bit more, as the victim was taken back to our killer’s private torture chamber. This makes me wonder if The Killer (as I’m now calling him) will be developed over the episodes into a complex character. This is an idea that varies through the horror genre as sometimes the slasher/serial killer has a whole identity and past revealed as the plot goes on. But it really depends on the film when you look at it, often the killer will wear a mask to remain completely anonymous and the identity is never a major plot point.
Now I’m quite excited for the next episode as only part of the group knows about the first murder. I’ll be interested to see what happens when the rest of them figure out what’s going on.
