Episode 2 Review
October 21, 2014

In Episode 2 of Drifter it’s apparent there’s several characters to keep track of: cannibals, post-apocalyptic gangs, Emily and Ed, and most importantly Agent Sands. Here’s where the website’s character list comes in handy.
Now most of this episode consists of using flashback to tell us about Drifter’s past. These scenes have some aesthetic value and employ great use of background music and scene music. Like most post-apocalyptic narratives any trace of a characters previous identity gets destroyed along with society. The Walking Dead (2010) series has used this tactic for several of their characters. In the terms of Drifter her career, her family, and her loyalty to the American government were all apart of her past identity.
Comes to think of it there are parallels between Drifter and Rick Grimes. In saying that Drifter is a character that’s traditionally played by a man. It’s nice to see the role reversal here.
The actor who plays Drifter does a good job at dealing with the demanding scenes in this episode. Previously she was just a badass, now there are more human scenes and more serious emotion. What is Drifter’s next move now that she has a gang after her? There’s also Emily and Ed to think about, because Drifter is indirectly putting them in danger. Although it’s safe to say, in terms of these fantastic re-appropriation of character genders, that Emily can take care of herself.
