Episode 4 Review

September 29, 2014
Picture
This episode is a little bit longer, but it picks up the pace. The running joke is the tech, a computer with a personality that has talked in the background for all of the show. This goes beyond software malfunction familiar to Star Trek, and acts more like a humorously eccentric A.I. For me it makes up for killing off our seriously underrated henchman, but as it turns out the henchmen for our villain are unlimited. Capitalist-level cloning is rather convenient.

This makes Hank the Henchman’s comments on his ‘Henchman Union’ a little more comical. I have a feeling that we’ll see several more henchmen dispatched over the season.

Hildy also gets another chance to shine as she recovers from her attack from ‘God.’ If this was a video review I would seriously air-quote that, and I love how Gillian says his name in the previous episode. In a brief scene between her and God/Magic Box we get a hint as to what this dude’s capabilities are. But back to Hildy, the girl really shows off some comedic skill as she literary sees stars.

Hildy and Captain Freelance have a great dynamic, which feels awkward for the viewer, as the two of them play around in the Captain’s dirty room. Their dynamic ends off the episode in its token cliffhanger, with excellent use of action text and overdramatic music. Gotta love this wordless interaction with overacting.

In comparison you have Doctor Mascalzone introduce a new evil character. Crown Prince Stacey is another plus for diversity in this show, and he conveys himself as a rich badass. Also he’s sassy as hell, and also says a lot of Russian things. Prince Stacey is rather unconventional in comparison your typical gruff, comic book villain. Please let us have an episode featuring his ballet dancing.
