Episode 6 Review

October 26, 2014
Picture
This episode feels like a filler. An episode that web series creator Rodney Smith describes as ‘world building.’ Here we have no real progress in plot, but development in side characters, organizations, and places that expand the universe of the story.

The method of world building is not something I recommend an abundance of. Network television has a habit of doing this a good halfway though the season to keep the episode count up. More episodes, more money, more viewers. It’s a weakness in the network television industry because it slows down the storytelling.

Now this leaves me frustrated. But the pros to this episode make it an enjoyable watch. We have the Henchman taking the spotlight playing the usual straight man. The episode also boasts a fast-paced feel and keeps the jokes on point. Action bubble! Running!

This is most evident with the HGA jokes. Parody on superheroes. Parody on unions. Can I just say that all the red tape, paperwork and waiting in lines, that make unions aggravating have great beats. The comedic timing is strong and it’s nice to see more women making it into the fold, even if it’s just bit parts. Other running jokes from the previous episodes also make an appearance.

I know there’s lots of hate on unions, grumbling on rules, but it’s hilarious to see it benefits Captain Freelance in the end. Isn’t that the general consensus? Ah! Unions are so restraining but it does wonders for my taxes!

Hopefully next week we’ll actually move forward in the story instead of just shuffling around.
