New Educational Web Series ‘Cranium Cookie’ Launches
November 18, 2014

Amidst the endless stream of web series on your typical genres of science fiction, drama, and comedy is Cranium Cookie. The show aims to give you fun, educational tidbits in an accessible way. When I say ‘accessible’ I don’t mean with the delivery method of online video. I mean presenting information on science, technology and history in a way both children and adults can understand. The series features educational facilities across the Greater Toronto Area, including museums, zoos, and art galleries. In a way, it’s a free pass to see what these facilities have to offer.
Today Cranium Cookie launches on YouTube. Their first episode features host Danielle Thorn and her adventure into High Park. The episode also shows off beautiful cinematography of this public nature park in the city’s West End.

According to their Facebook Page Cranium Cookie is produced and hosted by Danielle Thorn, Charles Barangan, and Adriana Prosser. Both Thorn and Barangan have ample experience in web series including dramas Out With Dad, Clutch and Asset. Barangan has received two L.A. WebFest awards for ‘Outstanding Achievement in Screenwriting in Drama.’ Danielle Thorn also runs her own YouTube channel. The Cranium Cookie channel also has several behind the scenes videos that show Thorn, Barangan, and Prosser perform comfortably on camera without taking the content too seriously. The web series is set to release a new episode each week.
Update – November 24, 2014
On November 19, 2014 Cranium Cookie released a second episode on High Park. Here the show gets into its groove with fun graphics, interaction with an expert of the park, and ‘Did You Know?’ facts. The first episode in comparison feels like more of a quick intro, as Episode 2 follows the format that you would expect from an educational show. This show’s theme, Noms for Your Noggin, presents itself with host Adrianna asking, ‘Can I eat it?’
My initial response to this episode is: please do more! To make this style, and fun education content consistent across the episodes will determine how season turns out. The High Park Nature Centre is just the start, and possibly the low point, with the amount of facilities accessible to audiences in the GTA.
