Ruby Skye P.I. - Episode 2

July 19, 2014
Picture
There’s no lag in this episode for Ruby getting down to detective business. As opposed to the previous seasons, Ruby has a direct competitor with Von Schlagen investigating. It’s interesting to see as Von Schlagen has jurisdiction on the crime scene, but at this point he’s not a direct enemy.

Although Ruby and Von Schlagen don’t have dialogue, the two still have the great comedic timing from Episode 1. Hopefully the Detective will play a bigger role in the following episodes, as there’s potential for him to give Ruby some serious challenges.

Now this episode introduces three new characters: Zoffi Bakabulindi, Colin Cumberbund, and Reeny Mussolini. Cumberbund and Miss Mussolini both work at the charity Friends of Needy Kids, FONK. Now it’s not exactly clear who Zoffi is, according to their website he works at the charity part time. Either way Zoffi clearly has a thing for Miss Mussolini, and their interaction is incredibly cute. Zoffi seems like a great addition to the cast and gives the story some more diversity.

Cumberbund and Mussolini make a great pair as well, and they for sure make the most of their screen time. They obviously run things at FONK. Mussolini is in charge, but Cumberbund knows all the details. Lucky him, he gets to hold a Flobble!

As Ruby explains, which is huge strength for the web series, Flobbles are in demand. Ruby asides gives the audience much needed context to the various conversations she overhears. Obviously Ruby knows everything she needs to know, and if she doesn’t she fact checks. All good P.I.s do their research.

I want to know more about Miss Mussolini. She’s a coffee addict with a firm hand. It’s hard for me to get away from the historical reference of her last name to a certain WWII politician. I’m curious to see why that’s intentional in later episodes.

Episode 2 is still a lot of set up in terms of story and characters, but it’s fast-paced with good acting and great comedic timing. The episode also ends on a cliffhanger making me eager to watch Episode 3.
