Ruby Skye P.I. - Episode 9

September 7, 2014
Picture
In all mystery stories there’s the built up to a moment, or scene in this case, where everything is suddenly explained. It’s possibly one of the most satisfying scenes in a mystery story. Without getting into the details, Ruby Skye P.I. does a great job with this part of the story. Ruby has a Sherlock Holmes moment of making sense of all of the random information.

The bonus points here is the answer to this season’s mystery isn’t spelled all out for the audience. This leaves it to the viewers to connect the dots, and prevents any condescending tone.

Detective Von Schlagen has condescending written all over him. He clearly doesn’t respect kids, a fault of his that holds him back from getting anywhere on this flobbery. Despite how the Detective treats Ruby over the season she keeps going to him for help. It’s rather disappointing to see the Detective dismiss Ruby like that. When will he get over himself and put some worth into Ruby’s word? The man’s setting up roadblocks in terms of his investigation, and he’ll end up embarrassing himself for getting shown up by a kid. Kids are smart, don’t talk down to them.

Another strength of this episode is Kat. I’ve missed having her around, as she’s another great female character. She helps tie everything together, not to mention she’s a lot like Ruby. I know that it’s part of her character to disappear at a moment’s notice (she’s totally Batman!), but Kat feels underused. Hopefully we’ll see more of her character in the next episode.

This episode on its own is packed with some great moments and revealing details. Ruby does a great job of handling all of the dialogue and interactions with various characters. This episode also makes the tone of the show a little dangerous. The bad guys in this case are some serious bad guys, look out Ruby!
