Ruby Skye P.I. - Episode 3
July 26, 2014

Here Ruby Skye P.I. finishes with exposition and jumps right into moving the plot along. Ruby and Hailey have a short discussion about Pixel, Hailey’s new dog that doesn’t actually belong to her, and the two of them start on finding her owner.
The opening scene also introduces us to the Secret Sister Signaling System. This consists of several different coloured hair elastics, each colour signaling a different meaning. I wish I came up with that when I was growing up with two sisters! Although I doubt it would have worked, as the sister in question could just ignore the signal.
I’m also curious what Maltese Puppy is in detective code, as that’s what Ruby suggests for the e-mail on the ‘found puppy’ posters. The scene here is great to let the audience let the audience know more about Hailey. She’s real smart, just as smart as Ruby, and it will be to neat to see where her storyline goes. It’s great that she’s got her own subplot.
Another strength of the episode is bringing back Edmund and exploring the dynamic between him and Ruby. Despite anything from the previous season, the two make a great pair in that Ruby still takes the lead on the case with Edmund already on his toes ready to help. He’s the Watson to her Sherlock, so to speak.
Cumberbund becomes the first suspect, and with Ruby all bearded up and ready for action she quickly gathers evidence. Remember, the cliffhanger of the last episode had Ruby deduce the FONK robbery as an inside job. Could Cumberbund be the man on the inside? What are his motives?
It’s hard to say whether Colin Cumberbund really stole the Flobbles, as he mentions The Onion in a list of great journalism publications, along with the CBC and the BBC. One of theses things is not like the other. It does make me question his smarts.
This episode ends on another cliffhanger, and it’s a good pattern to stick to. It builds, yet again, more anticipation for the next episode. Oh Flobbles where did you go?
