Ruby Skye P.I. - Episode 4
August 2, 2014

This episode remains consistent with all those preceding it with the excellent comedic timing, Ruby talking to the audience, and Mussolini’s over-caffeinated anxiety. The cool thing is that everyone at the FONK charity seems to have their own compulsion. Mussolini has coffee, Cumberbund has peanuts, and the part-time Zoffi seems to have Mussolini.
Episode 4 picks up with the same action that left us hanging last week. Ruby makes the most of her precious moments as Edmund distracts Detective Von Schlagen and Cumberbund. For me, Edmund’s dancing routine reminds me of Michael J. Fox in Back to the Future Part III. It’s one of the classic, yet readily overlooked, movie-making moments of the 80s. Kids, go watch this movie.
Either way, getting back to the hidden camera. It’s a smart move to keep the point of view strictly with Ruby, but still a way to give the audience the insight into private conversations. Ah the private investigator’s ability to ignore social boundaries. One cool thing to note is that Kid’s CBC has the full footage on their YouTube channel. That’s decent bonus content.
Ruby and Detective Von Schlagen have a great dialogue going, even if they aren’t in the same room. It would be interesting to see, if Von Schlagen could get over Ruby being a kid, the two of them team up. Ruby Skye definitely has a future as a detective.
Ruby seems to be on a roll with her investigation, which includes her awesome beard, but she’s got competition. Enter Diana Noughton. Diana and Ruby obviously have a history, and I’m keen to find out what it is. Maybe the clues to how she became on such bad terms with our favourite P.I. lie in her Tumblr.
Back to Ruby’s investigation, her hidden cam footage seems to reveal so much about potential suspects. Mussolini is the most interesting character in this scene, as she drinks almost more coffee than she can digest. Her alibi has an interesting website, I had no idea that kickboxing and macramé went together.
