Ruby Skye P.I. - Episode 6
August 16, 2014

The previous episode left off on a serious note with a bomb threat. Mussolini really? I didn’t see that one coming, as she’s so soft spoken!
Either way, Ruby does the responsible thing and goes straight to the police. Credit to the writers of Ruby Skye for telling kids that bomb threats are a serious thing. Unfortunately for Ruby, Detective Von Schalgen doesn’t take kids seriously. Although Von Schalgen is smart and resourceful, not to mention he’s hilarious to watch. How he dismisses Ruby probably won’t bode well for him later on, as we all know that Ruby will solve the case ahead of him.
While Ruby runs after Mussolini to try and foil her dangerous plan we meet a new character. The little girl that seems to follow Ruby everywhere is Kat. Kat, a rather smart younger version of Ruby, actually is following Mussolini. Is she trying to solve the case too? The girl is a pro, and I love how have another character that gives further diversity to the series.
At the moment of discovering Diana and Mussolini teaming up, the tone changes to unbelievably cute. This is possibly my favourite moment in the show. Here we also get to know Diana better. She cares genuinely about FONK and likes making candy bombs. How is it that Ruby dislikes her so much? The cool thing about Diana as the supposed ‘mean girl’ character is that she’s much more than that. To me this makes Diana feel like a real person.
It also brings up another thing that is a huge strength of this show: strong female characters. In this episode alone we have Ruby, Kat, Mussolini, Diana, and briefly Hailey. From the beginning of the season we’ve learned more about each character, and each character continues to have their own storyline. This is serious girl power, perfect for the target audience of kids and young teenagers who need more examples like this.
Of course we get another cliffhanger with this episode, which I have a theory about, but I’ll leave that until next time to avoid spoiling the ending.
