Ruby Skye P.I. - Episode 8
August 30, 2014

Picking up from the cliffhanger in the previous episode, Hailey is gone and took Pixel with her. Hailey does star in her own storyline, but I do miss seeing her in this episode. The Skye sisters contrast each other well, and Hailey also does a great job in breaking up Ruby’s screen time. Hopefully in the next episode Hailey can make a comeback with her fiery and puppy enthusiast personality.
Again this episode features some strong female characters that have their own storylines and goals. Diane, for example, talks to Ruby about the ‘mean girl’ described in her diary. Can we establish invading someone’s privacy like Ruby did is a really bad idea? The truth is, with Ruby carrying on regular investigations she thinks that snooping into personal business is ok.
If anything the brief scene between Diane and Ruby, and the dismissals from Detective Von Schlagen challenges Ruby to be better. Ruby is growing up, and she’s going to find that doing what she’s good at isn’t always easy. Our Private Investigator isn’t entirely perfect and that gives Ruby’s character more depth. Ruby doesn’t just have the case to solve, but some personal problems to work out too. Edmund, Hailey, and Diana add up to a bad day.
The hidden gems in this episode are in the physical evidence and the Secret Sister Signaling System. The physical evidence is featured on Ruby’s Case Files. I wish the evidence board that Ruby makes up was featured more. There’s lots of neat stuff on there like sticky notes, photos, and bits of evidence found at the crime scene.
One huge plus right before the episodic cliffhanger is the Wizard of Oz reference. That is a childhood favourite.
